River Towy Fishing: Where to Fish Guide

Introduction to the Towy

Anyone that knows anything about fishing knows that the River Towy has some seriously bountiful locations along its 75-mile run. There are of course various times throughout the year where one can expect to catch anything from Salmon to an assortment of Trout; it is also a fantastic river for both daytime and night-time fishing, as many anglers very well know. Though the river begins at Lyne Brianne Reservoir and runs all the way to its estuary that lies just south of Carmarthen, the best fishing isn't to be found directly at either of these locations. Instead, the most productive fishing can be enjoyed in and around a 15-mile stretch of gorgeous water that lies between Llandeilo and Nantgaredig.

The difference between the upper and lower fishery locations are quite stark. Upper Towy fishing is notorious for its holding pools (including Dolauhirion, Tairheol and Divlyn) which in the past have offered large quantities of Sewin and Salmon. The Lower Towy section is located below Llandover and offers more traditional fly-fishing waters. The area has a number of deep holding pools as well as productive runs and riffles littered throughout the wonderful meadows that surround them.
